June 2007

2007 has been a busy year for maintenance and improvement activities. For those who were not present at the May 19 membership meeting, the Board of Directors and numerous volunteers have been actively working to improve the Beach and Picnic grounds. As you may recall from our annual meeting in January, we announced plans to form a Capital Improvement Committee of BLHA Members to review the association's properties and make improvements.

The Volunteers, Committee Members and Board of Directors are pleased to announce the following improvements:

Beach Area
  • While the lake was lowered sand was expanded to cover a larger area, with no additional sand being delivered.
  • Pine trees/stumps (dead/diseased) were removed along with dead limbs from the remaining trees.
  • New volleyball poles and net have been installed at the beach.
  • While the lake was lowered sand was expanded to cover a larger area, with no additional sand being delivered.
Picnic Area
  • While the lake was lowered sand was expanded to cover a larger area, with no additional sand being delivered.
  • Landscaping (grass/shrubs and two benches) were added at the Point – thanks to Allan Lee for mowing the new lawn.
  • Pine trees/stumps (dead/diseased) were removed along with dead limbs from the remaining trees.
  • The deck was pressure washed and stained (900+ square feet)
  • A natural stone wall was added to provide a place to gather for events and provide a staging location for bands.
  • At the double-gate entrance four tons of "crush 'n run" was spread between the gates and the asphalt parking lot.
  • A 6" channel drain was installed along the edge of the parking lot to drain off the water coming from the parking lot – this will greatly improve the surface and minimize the area becoming muddy.
  • Three concrete tables have had stone added around the bases to tie in with the new stone wall.
Boat Launch
  • New concrete "stamped" pad was poured between the existing ramp and the Chapel parking lot.
  • Volunteers and Chapel Board working together added two natural stone walls – one around the lake shoreline in the Gazebo area and another next to the boat ramp.

Special thanks to ALL VOLUNTEERS who provided equipment and their time to assist with BLHA and Chapel improvement projects.
