Reflections... This term carries significant meaning for residents of Berkeley Lake. For some, it might simply be the definitions our dictionary lists for the word. For others, it represents this newsletter that is distributed to all our residents and advertisers. However, if we pause to reflect on one definition, "concentration of the mind; careful consideration" we may begin to see an image form in our mind's eye of pristine waters, a lake... Berkeley Lake.... What a lovely image to have on a summer's day.

For the past several months, I have been focused on challenges facing our state waters. To put this in perspective for our community, the term "state waters" represents the streams, ponds and lake within our city limits. The challenge I bring to your attention is the impact of storm water runoff from development sites along Peachtree Industrial Boulevard (PIB) that bring unwanted sediment into our state waters. Many of you have seen the muddy water following a rainstorm.

In this issue, you will be provided facts, pictures and timelines pertaining to an ongoing development project along PIB. A second timeline will illustrate a historical overview for Holben Pond and Berkeley Lake for the past three decades.

I encourage you to review the information presented in the "Watershed & Development" section to become familiar with the concerns facing our community. For those desiring to express opinions on this topic, a petition will be made available to sign along with the option of writing your county / state representatives. Further details will be available on the BLHA website or by contacting a member of the BLHA Board of Directors.

On a more fun note... BLHA fall quarterly meeting is scheduled for Saturday, September 19. This year's theme, entertainment and meal promise to bring a smile to all your faces. We look forward to seeing you and having a good time amongst the pines by the lake.

The 2009 Board of Directors has been busy this year with various activities and we are happy to report many of the goals and projects approved during our annual meeting have been achieved.
