September 2008

As our summer season comes to a close and students return to school we can reflect on how enjoyable the lake and the facilities have been this year. We are planning our fall meeting now. Note the date has changed to September 27. We look forward to seeing friends and new members, as we prepare to have another great gathering.

This year's fall theme will be Italian Dinner "Itza Party" with lotza music and refreshments. Volunteers are encouraged to contact Kay Lee to offer assistance, get involved and have FUN the evening before. Based on interest, we will be having a "Boat Regatta" also known as the "Ricotta Regatta" leading up to the evening meal and festivities with tunes by John Zibrida's Cadillac Tattoo. Individuals interested in registering for the Regatta can contact Kay Lee or Carol Seitz for details.

BLHA Updates:
  • Picnic Pavilion: Planning activities pending resolution of P&Z ordinance by City Council.
  • Flagstone engraving: Expected to be completed by mid September
  • Watershed/Development: Work to remove silt in pond on Lakeshore Drive completed in July.
  • Tree Removal: BLHA and City OEO worked closely with lakeside property owners to identify and remove a number of trees that died over the past year.
  • Beach: Thanks to Chip McDaniel for installing push button timers on the cabinet for controlling beach lighting. Additional lighting remains in planning, as we attempt to locate suitable fixtures.
  • Organic Gardening: Summer gardening has been successful with lots of fresh vegetables. Fall plantings are underway and if interested, please contact Frances Winslow at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or the other gardeners for information.
  • Lake Maintenance: Water quality remains good for both swimmers and fish. Steps taken to limit geese access to the beach, continues to be successful.
  • Membership / Budget: Both areas tracking to planned levels

I would also bring to our members' attention that a number of BLHA Board positions will be open at the end of this calendar year. If interested in serving on the Board or associated committees (Events, Capital Improvement, Lake Management, and Communications) please email the This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact a Board member or me directly. As always, I look forward to seeing you all at our fall event.
